Volunteering and participating at Integration Support

Volunteering is an excellent way of meeting new people and gaining valuable work experience, all while giving back to the community.

There are many volunteering opportunities at Integration Support Services and we are grateful for the dedication of our volunteers, who share their time and skills to help us deliver our vital services.

We provide training for all of our volunteers. Many of our volunteers went on to secure full-time employment, started studying at university or set up their own businesses. Our volunteers are also welcome to access our information, advice and guidance services.

In addition, Integration Support Services is partnered with Tempo and our volunteers can choose to sign up to receive Time Credits.

For each hour that a volunteer spends supporting ISS, we issue a Time Credit to thank them for their generosity.

Time Credits can then be spent at partner organisations throughout the UK, giving volunteers the opportunity to try new activities or visit new places.

Who can volunteer at Integration Support?

Almost anyone can be a volunteer. We have a wide range of roles which suit different people and different skills

How much time do I have to give as a volunteer?

It depends on the volunteer role you are interested in. Some people give an hour a week, other people do more.

Do I need to have qualifications?

We welcome people with or without qualifications. Most important is to have a right attitude to volunteering. We are looking for personal skills, such as being able to get on with a wide variety of people, being reliable and being enthusiastic about a particular interest or cause – rather than academic qualifications.

Do I get my expenses paid?

We reimburse out of pocket expenses such as travel or meals, usually within set limits. The types of expenses you can claim for will be confirmed once you start a volunteering role.

Do I get trained?

We will provide the necessary training to help you perform your role effectively. Volunteers will receive an induction and training depending on the role to perform their task well. The training provided will be appropriate for the demands of the position and the capabilities of the volunteer.

Can I leave if I don’t like it?

You are under no obligation to keep volunteering for our organisation if you don’t like it. We want all our volunteers to have a worthwhile and positive experience so we welcome feedback on how we could make improvement.

Can I claim benefits while volunteering?

Volunteers are not paid for their time but are entitled to be reimbursed for their travel and other legitimate expenses. Volunteering will not affect your benefits so long as you are still able to meet the conditions for receiving those benefits eg you need to be free to attend job interviews and obviously if you have a condition prevents you from doing paid work, in most cases, you will not be able to do this on a voluntary basis either.
